Reliability Statement
This Reliability Statement is provided for informational purposes only and does not constitute a guarantee, warranty, or service level agreement (SLA).
MNI's services, including IndustrySelect and IndustryNet, are critical applications used by thousands of customers every day. System stability, uptime, and safety are top priorities for us.
System Reliability
How does MNI make its websites and services reliable?
We design and build our software platform so that MNI's services, including IndustrySelect and IndustryNet, are resilient and available across a variety of disaster scenarios. This includes situations such as server hardware failures, loss of internet connectivity, loss of AC power, and more. Disaster recovery (DR) planning is an essential part of our operations, and we conduct routine DR testing to verify preparedness.
Are MNI's websites and services always available?
Our goal is to ensure you can access your IndustrySelect or IndustryNet account whenever you need it. There may be times when our services are unavailable due to scheduled maintenance, hardware failures, software issues, or connection outages. In the event of an outage, MNI's technical team is alerted and works diligently to restore service. Historically, our services have maintained approximately a 99.85% rolling 12-month uptime average; however, uptime is not guaranteed and may vary due to factors beyond our control. For real-time service status, please visit our Status page.
What steps does MNI take to mitigate hardware failures?
We have built a high level of redundancy into our technology stack. Our services are distributed across multiple servers. Our servers use RAID storage configurations with hot-swappable drives and redundant power supplies to reduce the risk that common hardware failures result in downtime. For more serious failures, we maintain on-site backup hardware for many critical components, including servers, switches, firewalls, and backup appliances. Our ability to replace or swap hardware helps us improve overall service reliability. Every incident we encounter becomes an opportunity to refine our processes and improve future resilience.
What steps does MNI take to mitigate power loss and/or internet connection outage?
Our server facility includes a commercial-grade battery backup system designed to sustain operations during short power interruptions. MNI also operates a natural gas-powered generator that starts automatically during extended power outages. To mitigate internet outages, MNI contracts with multiple internet providers using separate infrastructures. Our firewall is configured with automatic failover so that if one connection fails, traffic can be routed over a backup connection.
Data Safety
Is my data safe with MNI?
Our systems are designed following best practices for data protection and recovery. Our systems are designed so that data stored on the MNI platform is encrypted and replicated to both a local backup appliance and to the cloud. The local backup is intended to allow for relatively fast data recovery. The offsite cloud backup is intended as an additional layer of protection in the event of a catastrophic incident, such as fire or flood, and is stored in geographically separate locations. Both local and offsite backups are versioned so that, in some cases, data can be reverted to a previous point in time. Local backups are typically retained for up to one year, while offsite backups are retained for extended periods in accordance with our internal retention policies.
Is my data secure with MNI?
Our backup systems utilize strong encryption technologies, including 256-bit AES encryption. Data is encrypted during transmission and while stored in backup systems. We use SSL/TLS to protect data in transit between our systems and our offsite backup providers. For complete information on how MNI handles data security, please review our Security Policy.
Recoverability and Reliance
What is the geographical location of the site where my data is stored?
MNI data is primarily stored in our datacenter in a northern suburb of Chicago, USA. This central Midwest location provides fast connection speeds nationwide. Data replicated to the cloud is stored in geographically separate locations to guard against regional disasters.
How does MNI ensure all my data is backed up and can be restored in case of a disaster?
MNI's disaster recovery approach uses both local and offsite backups to help ensure multiple copies of data are available if needed. Local backups are designed to enable relatively fast restoration in many cases, depending on the nature and scope of the incident. Offsite backups are intended to provide additional protection in the event of large-scale disasters.
Can I recover my data if I accidentally delete it?
Depending on the circumstances of the deletion and the timing of the request, it may be possible to restore certain data. Customers can contact MNI to determine whether recovery may be possible and what options are available.
Automatic Monitoring and System Status
What does MNI do to monitor its systems?
MNI uses monitoring tools and third-party services to observe server, network, and application performance. Detected failures or anomalies may trigger automated actions (such as failover to a secondary internet provider) or alerts for our technical team to investigate. Our goal is to detect and resolve issues as quickly as possible.
We're not able to connect to an MNI website or service. How can we resolve this?
Many factors can cause a website or service to be temporarily unavailable. We recommend checking our Status page first to see if there is a known issue. If the Status page does not show an active issue, please contact our technical support team for further assistance.
How does MNI keep customers informed during service issues?
If an issue arises that may affect the availability of MNI services, and our websites remain online, we will attempt to post an update as soon as reasonably practical. We may also post non-critical maintenance updates on our websites. In the event of a significant outage, we may send an email update to users. Our Status page provides ongoing updates regarding known service incidents.
